There is a drop from about 3292' at White Pass to sea level in about 11.5 miles in order to get into or out of Skagway on the only road.

The real border is here, but customs was 8 miles down the road. We've used our passports several times already. This day we traveled from Yukon Territories, through a narrow section of British Columbia and then into the USA.
This road follows the Klondike Gold Rush trails.
